I was fortunate to have studied with teachers who welcomed me into a new way of thinking about music—it was creatively challenging, intellectually engaging, and profoundly human. Devoted as teachers, they demonstrated how they valued each student as an individual. These are the same values that I bring to my own teaching.
Over the past thirty years of working with students ages 5 to 72, my greatest pleasure has been helping people surpass their expectations of themselves and re-define their own personal best. My aim is to help students become self-motivated learners and through this discover their voices as artists and citizens.
My teaching experience includes coaching chamber ensembles, teaching pedagogy classes, group piano, and private studio lessons. Among my projects are coordinating the contemporary ensemble, Sin Fronteras, writing the sight-reading book, Steps to Success, and founding and directing the Young Artists Piano Camp. As Associate Professor of Piano at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, I’ve championed getting students out performing in the community exploring the impact their music makes on others.
